Did you know TikTok is not only for dancing?

How to maximise the potential of TikTok without film yourself dancing to a new choreography moving your hips to the latest viral dance.

Even though the rise of TikTok had one of its highest peaks while we were all in lockdown in early 2020, when mostly all generation Z were dancing and recording themselves to this viral app. Over the last two year the app has grown to be so much more than just dancing. Many people, organisations and businesses of all sizes have created content that has really proven to show economic benefits for them. How? Well, in this article we will show you some of the ways they have profited from TikTok’s algorithm and created amazing content that does not necessarily involve dancing.

Switch From Instagram to TikTok

First of all we need to address how more and more content is being produced for TikTok. For the past few months, Instagram has been trying to change its design and layout to look and feel like a video-based platform, favouring those who post more video content, like Reels. However, Instagram has faced quite a lot of backlash because many long-time users have seen how these new features and changes on Instagram’s algorithm have decreased the visibility of non-video content and many users do not base their content solely on video. To the point where even two of the most followed accounts on the platform, celebrities and entrepreneurs like Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, with over 600 million followers combined, posting their discontent with the new strategy of Instagram.

After so many accounts and important companies, investors and celebrities complaining about the new design and features of Instagram, saying that they did not want Instagram to become TikTok, Instagram had to back out and ended up not rolling all of these “new features” that were very similar to those that are making TikTok one of the most popular social media platforms.

How can you be successful on TikTok without dancing?

There are many companies and individuals that are currently using the app to create their own content without having to record themselves talking, showing their faces or dancing. These are things that may seem easy to do but for many people can be intimidating, to the point where it can block them and prevent them from creating quality content for their brands. So, what type of videos could they film? Well, these are five of the most common examples of TikToks that do not require the user to be visible in the video shaking their bodies:

1. Production Process and Final Result

– Shows part of the process to create/develop your product (2 sec), at normal speed. Continue showing the rest (at fast speed) and the final result. Let them see the manufacturing process, it helps you build trust.

2. ASMR

– Use ASMR (Autonomic Sensory Meridian Response) in a Reel/TikTok to capture attention and deliver satisfaction. Show a process by capturing all the sounds related to your business.

3. Solve a Problem

– Pose a problem to your audience, show it to them, and show them how to solve this problem, step by step. Don't give all the details, use only the keywords and make a call to action to read the video description or to visit your website to learn more.

4. Mistakes you are making...

– Shows typical errors in a process, with different clips for each error and for each solution. No need to explain with a lot of text, it is better to explain visually.

5. Get Your Audience Involved

Engage your followers by showing a part of your work where you need the customer to make a decision. Depending on the decision they make, there is an outcome in the description. This way the user understands what you do and how you work.

Final Words

To sum up, what started as a trendy way of recreating viral dances, TikTok has evolved into an enormous platform with such a variety of engaging content that does not have to include dancing anymore. If you are able to create content that uses viral sounds, catchy transitions, you give information to the viewer and your content will become engaging and viral, making your account more visible, thus your brand and, ultimately, the product you want to sell.
